Golf at Kingsbarns dates back to 1793, according to golf historian Bobby Burnet, with a nine-hole course once located on part of the current site. During World War II, the military took control of the course, as they considered the Kingsbarns beach a potential invasion point. The course vanished until American architect Kyle Phillips revitalised the area at the close of the 20th century.
Phillips drew inspiration from various courses, including Royal Dornoch, to create a design that blended seamlessly with the natural landscape. With the aid of earthmovers who relocated hundreds of thousands of tonnes of earth, Kingsbarns’ distinctive terrain was shaped. When the course officially opened in July 2000, it was met with widespread acclaim, and the layout fits so effortlessly into its surroundings that it feels like it has been there for centuries.
A highlight of Kingsbarns Golf Links is the breathtaking view of the North Sea, visible from almost every hole. The course also features its own burn, the Cambo, which was uncovered during the earthworks. The landscape is perfect for golf, with rolling fairways, natural humps, and deep hollows.
John and Nicola were perfect hosts. They took care of everything and it made our trip unforgettable. Their attention to detail is incredible and everything went smoothly. We had a guaranteed tee time for the Old Course which was the centerpiece of the trip. And they were very fun and nice people to be around. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a Scottish golf vacation.

She ensured we were in the Old Course balloting-system and that we were also checked in for the Old Course singles daily lottery. I was fortunate to secure two opportunities to play the Old Course. Nicola went out her way many times, including traveling back to pick me up from another course to ensure I made my Old Course check in time. She also meet up with me on the 18th tee to follow me in while taking pictures of a very memorable experience. ProScotGolf provides exceptional customer service and value.
