Formby stands out as the most picturesque among the distinguished selection of eight links courses situated between the charming coastal town of St Annes and the bustling city of Liverpool. Its scenic beauty is enhanced by the encompassing pine trees, imparting a softer, heathland ambiance to the links. Spanning across 470 acres within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Formby Golf Club remains one of the rare locales in England where spotting the native Red Squirrel is possible.
Established in 1884, Formby Golf Club initially featured a nine-hole course for its members. The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1912 by Willie Park Junior, with subsequent alterations by James Braid in 1922 and Harry Colt in 1933. In response to coastal erosion concerns in the 1980s, Donald Steel undertook revisions and lengthened the course to over 7,000 yards from the tips, ensuring its contemporary appeal.
What a perfect vacation with 5 beautiful days of golf. Nicola was great. She ensured we were in the Old Course balloting-system and that we were also checked in for the Old Course singles daily lottery. I was fortunate to secure two opportunities to play the Old Course. Nicola went out her way many times, including traveling back to pick me up from another course to ensure I made my Old Course check in time. She also meet up with me on the 18th tee to follow me in while taking pictures of a very memorable experience. ProScotGolf provides exceptional customer service and value. Absolutely the best! Everyone at ProScot (John, Nicola, Patricia) were exceptionally professional, friendly, and helpful.
The tour they put together for us was incredible. Our accommodations in St Andrews we’re top notch. The golf courses were fabulous. Drivers were always on time!
They made sure we had everything we needed from snacks to drinks and were willing to be flexible in terms of schedule
They setup dinner reservations at amazing restaurants, and were able to provide advice on just about anything in the area.
