If you’re planning a golf trip to Scotland for 2026 or 2027, one of the first things you’ll want to understand is cost.

Not a rough guess. A real expectation.

Because Scotland isn’t a standard golf holiday. Pricing varies depending on how the trip is built, and small decisions can make a big difference to the overall spend.

Here’s a clear breakdown of what to expect.

Average Cost Per Person

For most US-based groups travelling to Scotland, a typical trip will fall into one of these ranges:

  • Mid-range trips: £2,500 – £3,500 per person
  • Premium trips: £3,500 – £5,000 per person
  • High-end / luxury trips: £5,000 – £7,000+ per person

These figures usually exclude flights.

They are based on:

  • 5–7 nights
  • 4–6 rounds of golf
  • group size of 4–8 golfers

What’s Included in That Cost

A Scotland golf trip is made up of several key components.

Golf (Green Fees)

This is often the biggest single cost.

Typical pricing:

  • Standard links courses: £100 – £250
  • Premium courses: £250 – £500+
  • Championship venues: higher depending on access

A balanced itinerary usually mixes both.

Accommodation

Accommodation varies depending on location and level.

  • Mid-range hotels: £120 – £250 per night
  • Premium stays: £250 – £500+ per night

Location plays a big role here. Staying close to courses reduces travel time and improves the overall experience.

Transport

For groups of 4–8, transport is essential.

Typical inclusions:

  • airport transfers
  • daily course transfers
  • vehicle suitable for golf bags and luggage

As PGA Professional John Scott explains:
“Transport is one of the biggest differences between a trip that feels smooth and one that doesn’t. It’s not something you want to cut corners on.”

Planning and Logistics

This is often overlooked, but critical.

It includes:

  • securing tee times
  • structuring the itinerary
  • coordinating timings across the trip
  • adjusting plans if needed

This is where a lot of the value sits.

Key Factors That Affect Cost

Not every trip is priced the same. These are the main drivers.

1. Course Selection

Playing:

  • St Andrews
  • Turnberry
  • Royal Troon

will increase cost compared to a mix of lesser-known links.

2. Time of Year

Peak season (May–September):

  • higher prices
  • higher demand

Shoulder season (April, October):

  • better value
  • similar playing conditions

3. Group Size

Groups of 4–8:

  • easier to plan
  • often better value per person
  • more efficient for transport

4. Accommodation Level

The difference between:

  • boutique hotels
  • and 5-star resorts

can significantly shift the overall cost.

Why Prices Are Higher Than Expected

For many first-time travellers, Scotland costs more than expected.

The main reason is simple.

You’re not just paying for golf.

You’re paying for:

  • access to historic courses
  • a fully coordinated itinerary
  • transport that works
  • and a trip that runs smoothly from start to finish

As John often says:
“You’re building a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It needs to be put together properly.”

Can You Do It for Less?

Yes.

A lower-cost trip is possible if you:

  • travel outside peak season
  • choose fewer premium courses
  • stay in mid-range accommodation
  • keep travel within one region

You can still have a strong experience. It just needs to be structured differently.

What Most Groups Get Wrong

The most common mistake is trying to match:

  • a premium itinerary
  • with a lower budget

This usually leads to:

  • compromises on key parts of the trip
  • or frustration when expectations don’t align

A better approach is to:

  • set a realistic budget
  • then build the best trip within it

Quick Cost Summary

  • Most trips: £2,500 – £6,000+ per person
  • Best group size: 4–8 golfers
  • Ideal duration: 5–7 nights
  • Flights: usually separate

Frequently Asked Questions

Are flights included in Scotland golf trip packages?

Is it cheaper to travel in a group?

Yes. Groups of 4–8 often benefit from better overall value.

Can I reduce costs without losing quality?

Yes, by selecting the right mix of courses and accommodation.

Are premium courses worth the extra cost?

For many golfers, yes, but they should be balanced within the itinerary.

Build the Right Trip for Your Budget

A Scotland golf trip doesn’t need to be excessive, but it does need to be realistic.

Absolutely the best! Everyone at ProScot (John, Nicola, Patricia) were exceptionally professional, friendly, and helpful.

The tour they put together for us was incredible. Our accommodations in St Andrews we’re top notch. The golf courses were fabulous. Drivers were always on time!

They made sure we had everything we needed from snacks to drinks and were willing to be flexible in terms of schedule

They setup dinner reservations at amazing restaurants, and were able to provide advice on just about anything in the area.

What a perfect vacation with 5 beautiful days of golf. Nicola was great. She ensured we were in the Old Course balloting-system and that we were also checked in for the Old Course singles daily lottery. I was fortunate to secure two opportunities to play the Old Course. Nicola went out her way many times, including traveling back to pick me up from another course to ensure I made my Old Course check in time. She also meet up with me on the 18th tee to follow me in while taking pictures of a very memorable experience. ProScotGolf provides exceptional customer service and value. I will be planning my next trip soon.

I will be shocked if John and Nicola ever receive anything less than 5 Star ratings. My mates and I were looking for the "bucket list" golf trip to Scotland. We got an itinerary with confirmed tee times and dining reservations a year in advance. The golf courses were Turnberry, Prestwick, Royal Troon, St. Andrews Castle, THE OLD COURSE and Carnoustie. Upon arrival John promised that if anything was not to our liking to call him immediately and he would look into it. We never got a chance to test out his promise because everything went perfectly - with several positive surprises. Thanks John and Nicola for making our trip memorable.
