Private Advanced Tee Time Ballot

For those specifically aiming to play the Old Course at St Andrews, there’s an additional option: the Private Advanced Tee Time Ballot. This annual lottery process typically occurs in August/September for the following year’s tee times. Key points:

• Applications open on the St Andrews Links website, usually in mid-to-late August
• The application window is brief, often closing in early September
• Results are communicated directly to golfers in October
• This process is for individual golfers, not tour operators

3. Walk-Up Option

For the truly dedicated, there used to be a walk-up option where you could queue on the day of play. While this doesn’t guarantee a tee time, it could sometimes work, especially if a single golfer arriving before dawn. This year in 2024, its all change!

From 12th March 2024 a new process was introduced for single golfers hoping to play St Andrews Old Course. A Singles Daily Draw will now take place. The daily draw requires individual golfers to enter their details in person at the Old Pavilion or St Andrews Links Clubhouse between 09.00-17.00 the day before they wish to play. A randomised draw will then take place at 5pm with golfers being notified by SMS messages and email whether they have been allocated a tee time for the following day. This new digital system replaces the previous practise of golfers queuing outside the starter’s hut prior to play.

Groups have a slightly better chance through authorised providers. ProScot Golf Tours only offer guaranteed old course tee times to groups of 4 golfers or multiples of 4 golfers. We never split tee times across different groups of golfers.
